The purchasing department is the division of a company and has the task to research and monitor the company's buying decisions.  The purchasing department frequently interacts with other departments in order to determine the needs of the organization. In addition, the purchasing department has the responsibility to stay within the parameters of keeping the company profitable. Another term which is sometimes used for the purchasing is procurement.
