Portal means a doorway, gate, or means of entrance. Within technology, portal refers to an internet site that provides access or links to other sites. Portal is often treated as synonymous with business information and modified to meet a particular business need.  The term portal was started on the web. The initial web portals, such as Yahoo or Google, provided a collection of content and had a series of predefined links with a search engine.
