SOAP stands for Simple Object Access Protocol and is a proposal from some prominent companies (IBM and Microsoft, among others) to bridge the gap between Windows and the tandem of Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) and Java. It does this by TRA. SOAP is used over HTTP and SMTP, but HTTP is more common with the internet of today because it works well with network firewalls.
